Karonga United football Club’s technical panel has asked the teams management to sign new players to join the current squad ahead of the fourth coming season to kick off on 13th April 2019.
This has been said over the weekend when Karonga United football Club defeated Boma City Stars from Tanzania by 2 goals to 0 in a friendly match played at Karonga Stadium.
The club’s assistant coach, Wilberforce Longwe said they need to strengthen the current squad with more defenders and strikers before the start of the season for the team to do better in the Super league. “Am happy we won the friendly match during the weekend as every coach is happy when his side is doing well but the game has also been an eye opener to us as we have seen mistakes we are making as a team that needs to be rectified before the start of the league ”
“we need to bring new players to the team which can be of help to us and probably we need to bring in 2 more defenders and a striker to bring competition into the team”, Longwe said.
Longe also refuted speculations that the Karonga based team which will play in the Airtel Top 8 Cup for the first time this year has released some of its key players.”The fact that some of our key players have not been doing training with us does not mean they have been released. Some of the players were attending to their personal issues but let me make it a point that those players which played for Karonga United last year are still in our plans and we have not yet released them apart from Sherrif Shamama who the club sold to Silver Strikers football club “, said Longwe.
Karonga United will for the first time play in the Airtel top 8 Cup after they finished on position 7 in the TNM super league last year and managed to survive relegation a thing they failed to achieve the first time they played in the elite league in 2016.
