Flames coach Ronny Van Geneugden has released a 23 man squad to go into camp on Sunday 17 March ahead of the last 2019 AFCON qualifier match against Morocco on 23 March at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
In the released squad, the Belgian tactician has not called regular players such as Brighton Munthali, Levison Maganizo, Denis Chembezi, Patrick Phiri, and Precious Sambani who are with the Under 23 team preparing for the match against Zambia on 20th March. Speaking of the squad Geneugden said “the senior teams match will not change anything even if we can defeat Morocco that’s why we are prioritising the under 23 game as they will be playing back to back games making it difficult to include them in the senior teams game”.
Surprisingly Malanti Chiefs striker Binwel Katinji who last played for the Flames in November 2018 has been recalled together with on and off Gerald Phiri Jr, Micium Mhone, Khuda Muyawa and Miracle Gabeya. Meanwhile regular players for the team including captain Limbikani Mzamva, Charles Swini, Chiukepo Msowoya and Alfred Manyozo Jnr are missing on the released squad.
The Flames are in group B of the 2019 AFCON qualifier and lie 4th in their group with 4 points from 5 games and Morocco top the group with 10 points from same number of games.
