Southern Region Football team (SR) are the champions of the Rough Diamonds tournament after defeating Central Region Football team (CR) in the finals by 5 goals to 2.
The win in the finals gave SR the crown as they finished the tournament with 5 points a thing which delighted coach for the side Leo Mpulula.
” It wasn’t easy to select a team within a space of 4 days from a cream of more than 40 players but am happy the boys I selected put a galant fight and displayed good football “, Mpulula said.
However his counterpart Miliyasi Pofera Jegwe, who was coach for CR team was quick to accept defeat.
” My boys did not play according to plan as we were always second on the ball but congratulations to SR for being champions”, Jegwe said.
FAM’s Technical Director John Kaputa described the tournament as a success and that they will be doing it every year to identify hidden talent.
” The tournament has helped us identify hidden talent of which we have already called some of the identified players into the under 23 camp which is preparing for an Olympic qualifier against Zambia.
The 2 days tournament has seen CR finish with 4 points, FMB Under 20 team with 3 points, Northern Region team finish with 2 points with the champions collecting 5 points.
