The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has appointed Abel Mkandawire as head coach for the Malawi National Women’s Football team, She Flames.
Mkandawire has signed a one year contract with the country’s FA and has replaced Maggie Chombo Sadik who lead the She Flames at last year’s COSAFA women’s championship held in South Africa. The new coach who holds a CAF A Coaching Licence will lead an 8 member technical panel with their first assignment being the 2020 Olympic qualifier match against Mozambique later next month.
Abel Mkandawire will be assisted by MacNebert Kazuwa and Andrew Chikhosi while Maggie Chombo Sadik has been given the role of Technical Advisor. The She Flames will also have in its technical panel Chimwemwe Chitedze as goalkeeper trainer, Catherine Chikakuda as Team Manager, Chisomo Nkhoma as Physical Fitness Trainer with Dr Elita Chiwoko as team doctor.
The last time the She Flames played a competitive match was in September 2018 at the COSAFA Women’s Championship where the team played a total of 4 games, winning once and losing 3 games with a humiliating 6-0 defeat in the quarter finals by South Africa.
