President John Pombe Magufuli was among hundreds of mourners who paid their last respect to the body of the late CEO of IPP group of companies. Dr. Reginald Mengi at Karimjee grounds-Dar es Salaam.
Among other high profile guests who paid their last respect to Dr. Reginald Mengi who passed on May 2nd 2019 in Dubai, were the Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, various ministers, members of parliament, former top government officials, members of international missions and other celebrities.
His death has seemed to hurt many Tanzanians among them being the president who almost wept after viewing the body,as quote “he was Mengi’s closest friend”. His security guard, revealed that Dr. Mengi was a friendly boss to everyone regardless of his economical status.
Dr. Mengi used to have visitors often at his home place at Kinondoni. Among the visitors were physically challenged people, the poor and the more.
The security guard at his home said that during Dr Mengi’s departure, he promised him a present when he returns from Dubai.
“He promised me a present I have never had before as he would come back from Dubai …. the news about his death shocked me very much”
His body is expected to be buried in Kilimanjaro on Thursday of 9th May this week .
Artist Joel Lwanga sang ‘Sitabaki kama Nilivyo’ during the mass shedding tears from people allover ground during the last respect to Dr Mengi.
The citizens of Tanzania have been requested to keep calm during this moment of mourning and by doing so they will have paid the due respect as required.
