Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas. They include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the ‘big five’ game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain.
Offshore lies the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and Mafia with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.
The Capital city is Dodoma and the currency, Tanzanian shilling. The country has an estimated population of 57 million people.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa with a height of 5895 meters above sea level. Mount Kilimanjaro, has three volcanic cones, “Kibo”, “Mawenzi”, and “Shira” – all dormant.

Unguja, commonly known as Zanzibar Island, is the main island in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is famous for its internationally renowned beaches, famous spice plantations, history and diverse culture. Unguja is home to several endangered animal species including the red colobus monkey and green turtle.

The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region in northern Tanzania. It spans approximately 30,000 km². Its name is derived from the Maasai language and means “endless plains. Each year the Serengeti plays host to the world’s greatest natural spectacle, the Great Wildebeest Migration.

The annual migration of giant herds of grazers across Northern Tanzania and Kenya is a truly spectacular event. Over two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move through the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems in search of green pasture, in a regular pattern.
Meet the Maasai People
The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting northern Tanzania and parts of Kenya. Internationally they are one of the most recognizable tribes in Africa due to their their distinctive customs and dress.
