MALAWI

1966 – Malawi played their first international soccer match against Madagascar in Malawi and lost 0-5

2010 – Malawi played their first international soccer match against Togo and drew 1-1. Goal scored by Mwakasungula (28).

DRC

2005 – In Congo DRC Rwandan rebels burned 39 people alive in the village of Mtulumamba in eastern Congo in what some locals said was punishment for supporting UN peacekeepers.

2007 – The UN-backed Okapi radio station announced that Floribert Chui Bin Kosit was beaten to death in Congo’s restive eastern Kivu region.

SOUTH AFRICA

1939 – A meeting of 6,000 Indian launched the Passive Resistance Campaign against apartheid and racial policy in South Africa

1900 – The Commonwealth of Australia is established by an act of British Parliament, uniting the separate colonies under a federal government

1943 – American and British forces make an amphibious landing on Sicily.
